XMM-Newton Detection of X-Ray Emission from the Metal-polluted White Dwarf G 29-38

چکیده

A recent analysis of Chandra X-ray data the metal-polluted white dwarf (WD) G29-38 has revealed emission that can be attributed to accretion debris from a planetary body. In light this detection we revisit here archival XMM-Newton observations which only an upper limit was derived in past due presence relatively bright nearby source. An these multiple energy bands allows disentangling at location The similar spectral properties source and their spatial shift, consistent with proper motion between observations, strengthen origin G29-38. luminosities both are within 1-$\sigma$ uncertainties, so too best-fit plasma temperatures. Although count number is small, there tantalizing evidence for line 0.7-0.8 keV band optically-thin hot plasma. most likely candidate would Fe complex 16 \r{A}.

Detection of Saturnian X-ray Emission with Xmm-newton

The giant planet Saturn was observed by XMM-Newton in September 2002. We present and analyse these XMM-Newton observations and compare our findings to the Chandra observations of Saturn. Contamination of the XMM-Newton data by optical light is found to be severe in the medium and thin filters, but with the thick filter all optical light is sufficiently blocked and the signal observed in the thi...

The Dust cloud around the White Dwarf G 29 - 38

We present new observations of the white dwarf G 29-38 with the camera (4.5 and 8 μm), photometer (24 μm), and spectrograph (5.5–14 μm) of the Spitzer Space Telescope. This star has an exceptionally large infrared excess amounting to 3% of the bolometric luminosity. The spectral energy distribution has a continuum peak around 4.5 μm and a 9–11 μm emission feature 1.25 times brighter than the co...

The X-ray eclipse of OY Car resolved with XMM-Newton: X-ray emission from the polar regions of the white dwarf

We present the XMM-Newton X-ray eclipse lightcurve of the dwarf nova OY Car. The eclipse ingress and egress are well resolved for the first time in any dwarf nova placing strong constraints on the size and location of the X-ray emitting region. We find good fits to a simple linear eclipse model, giving ingress/egress durations of 30±3 s (∆φorb = 0.0055±0.0006). Remarkably this is shorter than t...

XMM - Newton Detection of X - ray Emission from the Bipolar Planetary Nebula Hb 5

We report the serendipitous detection by the XMM-Newton X-ray Observatory of an X-ray source at the position of the Type I (Heand N-rich) bipolar planetary nebula Hb 5. The Hb 5 X-ray source appears marginally resolved. While the small number of total counts (∼ 170) and significant off-axis angle of the X-ray source (∼ 7.8) precludes a definitive spatial analysis, the morphology of the X-ray em...

A new paradigm for the X - ray emission of O stars from XMM - Newton

XMM-Newton observations of the O supergiant ζ Orionis (O9.7 Ib) extend knowledge of its high-resolution spectrum beyond the C  line at 33.7Å and suggest a new framework for the interpretation of the X-ray spectra of single hot stars. All the lines are broad and asymmetric with similar velocity profiles. X-rays probably originate in the wind's terminal velocity regime in collisionless shocks c...
